Director James Albert has done a beachside romance for his debut film. "Mariyam Mukku" starring Fahad Fazil and Sana Althaf. Such locations create a perfect ambience for a romantic tit-tat. It portrays the budding love of two youngsters from a fishing community. After a series of incidents the male lead is forced to choose between his love or the person who adopted him. This forms the crux of the story.
Fahad has done his work as rough, yet loving villager. The female lead, though new performs well. The film is rich with other cast which includes Mnoj.k Jayan , Prathap Pothan, Irshad etc. The movie makes an impressive beginning, but fails to keep up the momentum. The scripts becomes a bit confused in between as the director hesitates to choose between a full –length romantic film or to add more drama elements to it. So the dramatic element overlaps the romantic factor and thus looses the grip over the audience. The sequence which follows are more predictable and it paves the way to destroy the feel of the movie.
The promising scripts of the director made great expectations among the audience and thus fails to meet their requirements from a film. Mariyam Mukku is a case of extreme paradox where the viewers are left in a dilemma. The songs and cinematography are passable. It gets the grade of an average movie.
